How to Search Saguache County Court Records
The central online starting point is the Colorado Judicial Branch Docket Search. Saguache County does not operate a separate county-built court case portal. The state docket tool covers Judicial Branch docket information and can be narrowed to the 12th Judicial District, Saguache County, Saguache Combined Court, and County or District court. It is useful for hearing listings, public docket events, case identifiers, party searches, attorney searches, and case class filtering.
The docket search is not the same thing as a full document repository. It may confirm that a case exists or that an event is scheduled, while pleadings, orders, exhibits, financial ledgers, certified copies, older files, and restricted material may require a Saguache County Judicial Branch records request or direct Clerk of Court contact.
- Open the Colorado Judicial Branch Docket Search and start with location filters if the case is known to be local.
- Select 12th Judicial District, Saguache County, and Saguache Combined Court when those fields are available.
- Choose County, District, or Both. District is the usual path for felony, divorce, probate, juvenile, mental health, larger civil, and water-related matters. County is the usual path for misdemeanors, traffic infractions, small claims, protection orders, and lower civil cases.
- Select a date range. The research source states that at least one non-date filter is required in addition to the date selection.
- Add a case number, party name, business name, attorney name, or attorney bar number. Case number searches can use the year, case class, and sequence fields.
- Review the public docket result for the court location, case class, event settings, and next hearing. Request the full case record or certified copy from the clerk if the docket listing is not enough.
The Colorado Judicial Branch public records access guide is the lead source for court-system access rules. It explains that court records are governed by Judicial Branch public access rules, not by the County Clerk and Recorder's land-record system.

Types of Saguache County Court Records
Saguache County court records are produced by the district court and county court functions housed through Saguache Combined Court. Municipal ordinance and municipal traffic matters can also be held by local municipal courts, including Crestone Municipal Court and Town of Saguache Municipal Court. Recorded land documents and marriage licenses are not court case files; those belong to the Saguache County Clerk and Recorder.
- Civil records include complaints, answers, motions, orders, judgments, hearing settings, and satisfaction of judgment. County court civil matters are under the Colorado county-court threshold, while district court can hear civil cases in any amount.
- Criminal records include felony district-court cases, misdemeanor county-court cases, advisements, bond orders, pleas, dispositions, sentences, fines, costs, restitution, and probation terms.
- Domestic relations records include divorce, parental responsibilities, child support, protection orders, and post-decree motions, with privacy restrictions for children, financial affidavits, safety information, and protected addresses.
- Probate records are district-court case files in Saguache County and may include estates, wills, guardianships, conservatorships, letters, inventories, accountings, and orders.
- Traffic records can be state-law county-court cases or municipal ordinance cases. Colorado DMV driver records are separate from court traffic files.
- Juvenile and mental health records are district-court matters, but public access is restricted because of age, medical, treatment, or protective information.

What Saguache County Court Records Show
A public court record can be only a docket listing, or it can be a broader case file with pleadings and orders. The public search fields observed in the research do not expose a full sample case document set, so the safest inventory is based on Colorado docket-search fields and ordinary court-record elements documented in the Saguache research.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Case Number | Colorado case identifiers commonly include a year, case class, and sequence. |
| Court Location | Judicial district, county, courthouse, and County or District court type. |
| Case Class | CR criminal, CV civil, DR domestic, PR probate, T traffic, CW water, and other listed classes. |
| Parties | Individual or business names and roles such as plaintiff, defendant, petitioner, respondent, or decedent estate. |
| Attorneys | Attorney name or bar number when counsel is associated with the case. |
| Dates | Filing, event, hearing, disposition, sentencing, payment, or deadline dates. |
| Docket Entries | Hearings, motions, orders, continuances, pleas, judgments, warrants, bonds, payments, and transcript events. |
| Financial Fields | Fines, fees, costs, restitution, bond, payment plan, collections status, or online payment eligibility. |
| Redactions | Social Security numbers, financial accounts, protected addresses, minor identities, medical information, and sealed material should not be public. |
All Documented Access Channels
Use the channel that matches the record owner. A failed online docket search does not always mean there is no record; it may mean the case is municipal, older, restricted, not searchable by the field used, or available only by request.
| Channel | Use It For | Local Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Colorado Judicial Branch Docket Search | State court dockets, hearing settings, case identifiers | Narrow to 12th Judicial District, Saguache County, and Saguache Combined Court. |
| Saguache Combined Court counter | Copies, older files, certified records, availability questions | Use the Clerk of Court for court case files. |
| Judicial Branch Records Request | Court records not available through docket search | Linked from the official Saguache County court page. |
| Colorado Judicial Online Payment System | Fees, fines, costs, restitution, traffic or case payments | Search by Saguache County case number, ticket number, or name. |
| Crestone Municipal Court | Municipal ordinance and town traffic docket information | Dockets are posted outside the Alder Meeting Room at least 24 hours before court. |
| Town of Saguache Municipal Court | Town ordinance and municipal traffic matters | Check the municipal clerk separately because local ordinance matters may not appear in the state docket search. |
| County Clerk iCounty | Recorded documents, not court files | Use for land records and recording images, not tickets, warrants, divorce, probate, or court dates. |
Public Access Framework for Saguache County Court Records
Colorado's public access rules come from several sources. Chief Justice Directive 05-01 and the Public Access to Information and Records Rule govern court-system records. CORA is the general public-records law for government records. CCJRA applies to criminal justice records and distinguishes official action records from more discretionary law-enforcement material.
For Saguache County, this means the correct request path depends on the document. A court order, docket, probate file, divorce case, or criminal case filing belongs with the Clerk of Court. A deed, recorded plat, marriage license, or commissioner record belongs with the County Clerk and Recorder. A jail, booking, or sheriff incident record belongs with law enforcement or a CCJRA request channel.
Note: Public access does not override sealing orders, juvenile confidentiality, protected addresses, victim privacy, medical restrictions, or required redactions.

Records That Are Sealed or Confidential in Saguache County
Restricted court-record categories include juvenile delinquency and dependency cases, sealed criminal cases, expunged juvenile records, adoption matters, mental health proceedings, protected addresses, victim information, medical details, Social Security numbers, financial account numbers, and some minor-identifying data. Public docket information may be limited even when the case class exists in the search form.
For criminal sealing, the Judicial Branch directs users to its Seal My Case materials. The practical local path is to identify whether the matter involves an arrest with no charges, a dismissed or acquitted case, a municipal case, a conviction, or an automatic-sealing category, then file in the proper court and provide any required notice to the district attorney. Sealing restricts public access; it does not necessarily erase every government record.

In-Person Court Record Requests
For court case records, use the Saguache Combined Court rather than the County Clerk and Recorder. Bring enough identifying detail for the clerk to locate the file: party names, case number if known, case type, approximate filing date, and whether a plain or certified copy is needed. For recorded land documents, marriage licensing, and other county recording services, use the separate County Clerk and Recorder.
